Ali Ehsassi
Ali Ehsassi is a Canadian politician who has served as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Willowdale since 2015. Born on April 24, 1970, he has held roles such as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, and currently serves as the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Services, and Procurement.

  • Parliamentary Advocacy: In April 2024, Ehsassi tabled two petitions in the House of Commons, one from Afghan women and another from Iranian Canadian women, urging the recognition of gender apartheid as a crime against humanity and calling for accelerated investigations into the Taliban’s actions.

  • Subcommittee Report on Hazara Persecution: As chair of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights, Ehsassi led a study on the historical and ongoing persecution of the Hazara community in Afghanistan. The resulting report, “Enduring and overcoming: the struggle of the Hazaras in Afghanistan,” was published in October 2024, highlighting the community’s challenges and advocating for their rights.
